Are you fascinated by ice climbing and looking for a new thrill? Trust a Pinzolo Val Rendena Mountain Guide – Mountain Friends: they will accompany you on your first steps into the captivating world of ice climbing.
The ice climbing course is aimed at anyone who wants to approach this winter discipline in a gradual and effective way, learning all the most important aspects to correctly face a day of ice climbing. The goal is to provide essential knowledge about progression techniques and safety on classic icefalls.
The course takes place over two single-day sessions (a weekend) and covers the following topics:
-
Safety procedures (how to tie in, belaying methods)
-
Progression techniques (according to slope angle)
-
Proper use of equipment (ice axes and crampons)
-
Placement of protection (ice screws, Abalakov anchors, belay stations)
-
Hazard management related to the activity
However, the main objective remains to get participants climbing as much as possible over the two days.
The course will be held in Val Brenta, an area with many single-pitch routes of varying difficulty — ideal for learning. There are also a few short multi-pitch icefalls (two to three pitches). The ice climbing area is reached with about an hour’s walk along a comfortable forest road. The meeting point is the Prà della Casa hotel-restaurant, located in Val Brenta. The valley entrance is in Sant’Antonio di Mavignola, between Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio.
It is important to note that if ice conditions in Val Brenta are not safe, the course will take place in alternative locations such as Val di Rabbi, Passo del Tonale, or Valbione (above Ponte di Legno).
